Day 3: Morning game drive and Transfer to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, go on a game drive around Lake Manyara in search of animals. The Great Rift Valley runs through Lake Manyara. It has a beautiful setting and is known for its tree-climbing lions and soda-ash Lake.
The lake is a refuge for flamingo clouds and other amazing water birds. This is a bird-watching enthusiast’s dream! The forested valleys and vast savannah plains are home to a significant elephant population, as well as herds of buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, baboons, and a variety of beautiful antelopes. Predators are also prevalent in the park, with the unusual tree-climbing lions topping the list. Around 400 kinds of birds visit the lake’s shores, many among which are waterfowl or migratory.
After lunch, depart on a long but lovely 5- to 6-hour trip to the Serengeti plains. Travel through Masai settlements and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Make a stop at Olduvai Gorge, one of the world’s most important archaeological sites. Mary Leakey uncovered a 1.8-million-year-old ape-like skull from an early hominin (human-like species) known as Australopithecus boisei in the gorge in 1959. This finding, coupled with the discovery of over 60 early hominid fossils, including Homo habilis, fundamentally altered our understanding of human evolution.
Arrive late at evening in the Serengeti wilderness, site of the Great Migration, the world’s largest mass terrestrial animal movement. Even outside of the Migration season, the Serengeti provides excellent animal watching. Its lion prides are enormous, the birdlife is abundant, and you’ll see a variety of predators and plains species.
Enjoy a game drive on your way to your central Serengeti lodge/camp. The gorgeous Seronera Valley is located in this area, and it is the ideal place in Africa to witness Lions, Leopards, and Cheetahs on thrilling hunts. Dinner and overnight at the lodge
