Detailed itinerary of the trek
Day 1: Arrival and pick from the airport
Upon your arrival at the airport, our guide will warmly welcome you, brief you about the tour and transfer you to Moshi town where you will check in at the lodge and spend the day at leisure as you await dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Moshi to Marangu Gate (1840m) to Mandara Hut (2670m)
On day 2, you’ll wake up to an early morning breakfast and proceed to the park through the Marangu Gate. Upon completing all necessary paperwork at the park, you will proceed through the dense rainforests where you will be able to see some primates like thumbless black and colobus monkeys scrambling in the lush vegetation. Approximately 4 hours later, you will arrive at Mandara hut, take some rest and later visit the Maundi crater. You shall then return to Mandara hut for relaxation, dinner, and rest.

Day 3: Mandara Hut (2670m) to Horombo Hut (3720m)
After having a morning leisurely breakfast, you will depart from Mandara Hut and head for Horombo Hut. During the trek, you will experience different vegetation types ranging from timberline, heath, and moor zone to shrubs. Upon arrival at Horombo Hut which stands at an altitude of 3700m, you will see fantastic views that overlook Mawenzi, Kibo, and Masai steppe plains as you await a delicious dinner and overnight rest

Day 4: Horombo Hut (3720m) to Zebra Rocks (3980m) to Horombo Hut (3720m)
Day 4 serves as an acclimatization day to make your body acclimatize to the high altitude. Acclimatization should not be underlooked because it improves your success chances of arriving at the summit. After having a relaxed breakfast, you will take a 4–5-hour trek to the zebra rocks that were named zebra because of the distinctive black and white stripes on it. You shall return to Horombo Hut for lunch and a long day of relaxation so that you regain and save strength for the hiking activity the next day.

Day 5: Horombo Hut (3720m) to Kibo Hut (4700m)
After morning breakfast, you will start your 5 – 6-hour trek to Kibo Hut. The trek will be a long and tough one as you will trail through to the Last Water point to the saddles until you reach the near vegetation-less plateau that connects the main summit of Kibo with Mawenzi. After arriving at Kibo Hut, you will have an early delicious evening meal followed by an early night rest for the short night because you will be woken up early.

Day 6: Kibo Hut (4700m) to uhuru peak to (5895m) to Horombo Hut (4700m)
Day 6 is a big day also known as the summit stage day. You will wake up in the middle of the night when the lava ash is still frozen because it’s easier to walk on frozen lava ash. The long and strenuous trek shall be an engaging one passing through Hans Meyer Cave at 5220 meters, and Gillman’s Point at 5715 meters till you arrive at the crater rim of Kilimanjaro where the sun will have slowly warmed up the land making you forget about the cold of the night. You will further hike to Uhuru Peak the roof of Africa at 5895 meters where you will be able to take photos just to spice up your Mount Kilimanjaro hike. You will then descend back to Kibo hut for lunch and proceed back down to Horombo Hut.

Day 7: Horombo Hut (3720m) to Marangu Gate (1840m) to Moshi
On this day, you will have breakfast and start your approximately 6-hour trek through the heath and moor zone until you arrive at Mandara Hut for lunch. After lunch, you will trek through the tropical rainforests all the way to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. You will then be driven to your lodge in Moshi, check in, relax as you celebrate your success of reaching the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro, and have dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 8: Transfer to the airport for departure
After a leisurely breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and our guide will transfer you to the airport depending on the time of your scheduled flight. The awesome 8-day Kilimanjaro trekking on the Marangu route ends here.
