The overview

This four-day double gorilla trek in Uganda is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This safari begins and concludes in Kampala, with a drive to Bwindi National Park, where you will go gorilla trekking twice in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will have the opportunity to trek two of the 19 habituated mountain gorilla groups. In addition to the gorillas, you will have the opportunity to witness other primates such as red-tailed monkeys, chimps, baboons, and black and white Colobus monkeys

Day 1: Drive from Kampala to Bwindi National park

After an early breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Entebbe and transported for 7 hours to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Make a photographic and geographical halt at the Equator line in Kayabwe. The equator is the line of zero latitude that divides the globe into two parts, the northern and southern hemispheres. You experiment at the equator line with the forces within the zero latitude line and how they affect the movement of water at this point. You will then proceed to Mbarara, where you will have lunch at the Igongo Cultural Center before continuing on to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is approximately 450 kilometers to the west. Upon arrival check in the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: First day gorilla trekking and Batwa Community tour

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to the park headquarters for an orientation on the regulations and standards of gorilla trekking. Following the orientation, you will be assigned a gorilla family to accompany you on your tour, which will begin in the jungle with an expert park guide. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours since gorillas seek for food. When the mountain gorillas are discovered, you are permitted to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat to learn more about their behavior and habits, to witness them eating, breastfeeding, and grooming young ones, to snap photos, and to record the moments to show people back home after the safari.

In the late afternoon, go on a guided community walk on the Batwa route in Bwindi to learn about the residents’ lives. You’ll go to an ancient herbalist to learn how to manufacture native medicine to treat a variety of human diseases, a blacksmith to see how he makes everyday objects, and a brewery to learn how to make local beer using traditional methods. Traditional village dances will also keep you entertained. Dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge are included.

Day 3: Transfer back to Kampala

After a leisurely breakfast, begin your journey back to Kampala, passing through rolling hills with terraces and admiring the beautiful nature of the various spots. Lunch will be provided in Mbarara, followed by a visit to Mbambire Drum Makers Point before continuing to Kampala arriving late in the afternoon. Depending on your departure itinerary, the guide may drop you off at the hotel or the airport, therefore putting this safari to a close.

Brief information about Bwindi national park

Bwindi is located in the southwest province of Uganda, along the rift valley’s edge. Rwanda borders the impenetrable forest, commonly known as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It has a total area of 331 square kilometers, but it is also located in the highest sections of the Kigezi hills, at elevations ranging from 1,190 to 2,607 meters above sea level, with 60% of this mystical park over 2,000 meters. The park’s highest point is Rwamunyonyi hill on the park’s eastern border, while its lowest point is towards the park’s northern end.

The endangered mountain gorilla is the main draw of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Uganda is home to half of the surviving mountain gorillas, with the majority of them found in Bwindi. As a result, gorilla trekking is the main draw for tourists to the area each year. Gorilla trekking is mostly available in four park regions: Buhoma, Nkuringo, Rushaga, and Ruhija.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to approximately 160 different tree species, 105 different ferns, and various floral plants. The Ihihizo, Ishasha, Ivi, Munyaga, and Ntengyere rivers receive water from the Bwindi forest, which is a key water catchment zone. These rivers provide water to larger lakes such as Bunyonyi, Mutanda, and Lake Edward. Despite the fact that the rest of the country is experiencing a dry period, Bwindi boasts moderate temperatures and abundant precipitation all year.
