See wild creatures along the way with the Masai people. Hopefully, you’ll reach at Oldoinyo Lengai Mountain in the afternoon. Meal plan: All meals are included
Day 2: Trek to Mountain Oldonyo Lengai Peak of 2960m and descent, drive back to Arusha
The driver takes you to the foot of the Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano around 1 a.m. to begin the climb. Walking on the volcano’s slopes can be difficult, especially in the dark, so stay with the guide. The trek is hard and takes between 7 and 12 hours to complete, depending on your fitness and pace. Because the gradient is high, it is advised to take a little break every 100 m or so of altitude rise to acclimate. In Maasai, “Oldoinyo Lengai” means “The Mountain of God.”
You are going to walk through the crater floor. The ascent of Oldoinyo Lengai is difficult due to the daytime heat, lack of water, steep and unsuitable ash and crumbly rock slopes, and significant height increase. Shorts and a thick jacket are recommended for the ascent, as the peak before dawn can be freezing.
You will have reached an altitude of 2,960 m at the crater’s edge. Inside the Mountain of God crater, you can practically hear the lava flow. When you reach the summit, you will be able to see the sunrise, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Meru, all of the highlands volcanoes, and the Rift Valley.
After some time at the pinnacle, you will begin your careful descend to the mountain’s floor.
The driver will be waiting for you at the foot of the mountain with cold drinks, ready to transport you back to the camp for rest. After lunch, drive back to Arusha town and drop you off at the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Brief Information about Ol’doinyo Lengai Mountain
Mountain Lengai, is located in one of the most picturesque areas of northern Tanzania, near Lake Natron, where hundreds of thousands of pink flamingos migrate each year. Also known as “Ol’doinyo Lengai,” rises 2,100 meters above the East African Rift Valley floor to a height of 2,960 meters. The name Ol’doinyo Lengai, which means “Mountain of God,” comes from the Maasai language of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On this active volcanic peak, the Maasai people pray to God “Enkai” or “Engai,” whom they believe is the Creator of all things.
Ol’doinyo Lengai is the sole active volcanic peak in the East African Rift Valley Region, attracting geologists from around the world for research. Carbonated lava is dark brown first extruded, but it reacts quickly and converts to moisture to hydrate, then to secondary alteration minerals that give the rock its white color.
The Maasai believe that the “white rock” represents the white beards of the “Enkai”. Every year, a large number of people visit and climb this peak in Northern Tanzania. This 9,442 foot long mountain should not be underestimated, since the steep trekking requires a lot of determination to ascend.
Climbing Ol’doinyo Lengai, on the other hand, does not necessitate technical expertise. On the crater rim at the summit, tiny lava cones can be seen. Despite the fact that Ol’doinyo Lengai’s volcano erupts frequently, no injuries or deaths have been reported. Geologists claim that the lava from Ol’doinyo Lenga is not as hot as that of other volcanoes throughout the world
