Drive to Kasese, gear check & briefing.

Drive from Kampala to Kasese at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains. Afternoon gear check and trail briefing with your mountain guide team.

Nyakalengija — Sine Hut (2,596m)

Start the trek, hike to Sine Hut.

Register at Nyakalengija gate and begin the trek through tropical rainforest. Cross the Mubuku River and climb steadily to Sine Hut at 2,596m. About 6–7 hours of hiking.

Sine Hut — John Matte Hut (3,505m)

Trek through bamboo and heather zones.

Ascend through bamboo and giant heather zones. Pass stunning moss-covered trees and reach John Matte Hut at 3,505m. About 5–6 hours hiking.

John Matte — Bujuku Hut (3,962m)

Enter the alpine zone, giant groundsels.

Trek through the incredible Bigo Bog and past giant lobelias and groundsels — plants unique to these mountains. Reach Bujuku Hut beneath the glaciers. About 5 hours.

Bujuku — Elena Hut (4,541m)

Ascend to Elena Hut below the summit.

Cross the Scott-Elliot Pass at 4,372m with views of the Stanley Plateau glaciers. Reach Elena Hut, the staging point for the summit push. About 4 hours.

Summit Margherita Peak (5,109m) — Guy Yeoman

Summit day! Highest peak in the Rwenzoris.

Pre-dawn start for the summit of Margherita Peak at 5,109m — the third-highest point in Africa. Traverse the Stanley Glacier and scramble the final rocks. Incredible views on a clear day. Descend to Guy Yeoman Hut. About 8–10 hours.

Guy Yeoman Hut (3,505m)

Descend — Nyakalengija — Kasese

Final descent & celebration.

Descend through the forest back to Nyakalengija gate. Receive your summit certificate. Transfer to Kasese or continue to Kampala/Entebbe for departure.
